The elevator dinged as the door telescoped to the side, revealing a white wall, the distant sounds of a television. Ramona hopped from one foot to the other; dad was exhausted enough to collapse to sleep immediately, and though her legs were killing her, she must see all this building has to offer. She gushed already at its lobby, nurses loading Pokeballs into strange glowing machines, screens advertising all the events happening around the islands. Dad laughed as she stared at the automatic water fountain outside their rooms, and she was almost convinced that it could dispense soda if she looked hard enough.
She stepped out. The elevator lurched beneath her heels. Around a corner, the lounge opened up, a massive room with many sets of couches, beanbag chairs, televisions, each arrangement like its own living room. Behind everything was a long counter with a window facing the city, its buildings brighter than stars, barstools aligned with each outlet along the wall. She rushed to the next room, a spacious kitchen with all the amenities she could imagine, and the next with its exercise equipment. One room was apparently a sauna, but she'd only seen them in movies and occupied by old fat men.
This was where the splendor was! She gave a goofy grin, even as a man passed and looked at her with a judgmental gaze. After seeing her microscopic room, its eggshell walls and singular, jail cell window and a bed as rough as plywood, it was good to find a place that exceeded her expectation.
Could you let your Pokemon out here? Surely they wouldn't fret over a little floating blob! Jello hadn't peed on the floor since last week! Her thoughts revolved in an uncontainable orbit as she returned to the lounge area, sunk into the first of the many couches she would test. Perhaps she could even sleep up here!

Lydia's eyes closed as the elevator moved upwards, she wore the same blank expression she usually had. She wasn't sure what kind of things awaited her here. This was the start of a journey, right? She really wasn't sure what her and Kora would see in this place. She spent a few seconds wondering what kinds of sights and experiences she'd meet here. Finally, the elevator let out a small ding, and the doors pulled apart, revealing the lounge area. She noticed a child and their dad resting in couches. Lydia walked over and sat in a bean bag chair. She let out a long sigh before she pulled a pokeball off of her belt. Is she allowed to let pokemon out here? She thought on it for a minute, before coming to the conclusion that, if they say anything to her, she'll return Kora to his pokeball. So, she pressed the button on the ball, and tossed it a bit up. The ball popped open, and a red light crawled out of it before the Trapinch emerged from the light and landed in front of the beanbag. Kora looked around a bit, before he looked at Lydia and tilted his huge head. Lydia just smiled a bit and rubbed the Trapinch's head. Kora's eyes closed as he smiled, making a trilling sound.
Mickey then walked into the lounge, his Magikarp kept safely stored in his pokeball. He smiled cheekily as he looked around the room. He noticed the bright lights in the window, shining like the sun. He them looked around some more and saw some people laying in couches and beanbags. Mickey walked on over and noticed one girl going and testing out different couches. He decided to go talk with her. "Hey!" he said, "What'cha doing?".

Jonathan was napping on one of the sofas with Fairy snuggled up in his lap, oblivious to the world around him. The timezone difference between Hoenn and Amrys was big enough that the pair were struggling with staying awake, Jonno's internal clock was telling him it was bed time. Fairy didn't seem to be coping too well either, grunting in annoyance when he shifted to get more comfortable. The little eevee gave his owner a swift kick in the stomach as a reminder to stay still before burying his face into the boy's chest. "Yowzers, you're not the only one that's tired, mate."
Forcefully dragged out of his sleepy haze, he blearily looked around to see that he wasn't alone anymore. Two girls and a guy had come in while he'd napped away, they looked just as wide-eyed and fascinated as he'd been when he'd first arrived (before the jet-lag claimed him). It was cute, seemed like today was orientation day for newbies or something. A part of him wanted to just close his eyes again and pretend to be asleep, but his mother raised him better than that, unfortunately. Despite Fairy's protests, he sat up from where he was sprawled out on the sofa, and gave the newcomers a jaunty wave. "Heya, are you lot new here too? Name's Jonathan, but you can call me, Jonno."
When he'd arrived on the Island, he'd been alone (except for Fairy, of course), having left his family's pokemon in Slateport, as his father required them for his work. Though they'd never been his truly, it was odd without their company, he'd grown used to having Wingull's squawking, Taillow's shrieking, while Ace, his father's Azumaril, herded the birds back onto their perches for processing their mail. It was peaceful here, and it smelt strongly of the sea like home, but it lacked the crazy bustle of the markets, the shouting of dock workers that he had known like the back of his hand. He hoped, maybe with time, he'd grow to love it here too, and the first step to this would be making a few friends.

Ramona planted herself onto a soft cushion, and her whole body felt like it was sinking into a Swablu's feather. It was an odd turn of events, the panic of sinking that succumbed to peaceful comfort. She swung her legs onto the cushion beside her before checking to see if feet (and shoes, for that matter) were allowed on the couch, letting herself fall into the mass of pillows in the corner of the sectional.
What'cha doing? It took a few moments for Ramona to realize the question was for her. She opened her eyes, uncertain of the length of time that had passed. It was still dark outside, the room still basked in a hearthlike orange, but darkness was darkness no matter how late, right? Wasn't Huanglu City known for never sleeping?
"How long have I been here?" she asked rather stupidly, as if it mattered. She forgot that she no longer had to pad past mom's bedroom if she stayed up too late, that she had her own private place and that the floors outside were pretty silent (she had tested them out before, after all). She found herself staring at a pink-haired boy, not knowing if he was the one who asked her the original question. Did he say something different? Why was the name 'Jonno' springing to mind?
She noticed a girl sitting by herself as well; surely these people weren't there before she sat! She was always oblivious to certain details, a painting in mom's living room she never noticed or an orange juice she left on the table before deciding to pour another moments later.

Lydia looked up as a guy suddenly woke up and introduced himself. She stopped petting Kora for a bit just to gather her thoughts. "Yeah, I'm new here. Name's Lydia," she blankly replied, then she looked at her Trapinch, "This little guy here's Kora." She then stood up and stretched.
Mickey blinked in surprise and confusion at the girl's response. Did he surprise her somehow? "Erm... I don't know. You were here when I came in a couple minutes ago..." he wasn't sure how to respond. He looked around at the other people there, before looking back at the girl. "My name's Mickey, by the way..." he added. To be honest, he barely noticed the other people until they spoke. He wasn't sure what they'd do here. Would they just go to bed? Would they have battle? Would they just hang out? He didn't know.

Elijah was not a social kid, he did his best to avoid interaction with others. He often hid behind closed doors to avoid unneeded attention. Before coming to the Amrys Elijah's only hobbies consisted of reading, writing and the occasional play time with Titana. He didn't have close relationships with anyone, people at school would find the responses Elijah gave to be awkward or strange so they as well avoided him. His only companion would have to be Togepi, as he had always been by Elijah's side. One bad side about their friendship was that Titana pushed Elijah out of his comfort zone, forcing him to be in situations that he preferred not to be in. Just like this current one,
Elijah had been enjoying the alone time in the provided dorm, he was reading books very diligently. Only to be interrupted by Titana, who was nagging Elijah to go exploring. Hesitantly Elijah agreed, following Titana's lead as they explored the center tower. He wasn't really paying attention to where Titana was going, he had his head lowered to avoid eye contact and was following Titana's tiny feet. When they stopped Elijah looked up, only to see the lounge filled with other trainers. His heart started beating faster and nerves started to crawl up his skin. He tried to leave quietly since it seemed like the others didn't notice his presence yet, but Titana's soft nudge ended up pushing Elijah closer to one of the girls.
He met her gaze but quickly looked away, the color of his cheeks turning red. Unsure what to do in such a situation he waved his hand at them, giving them a blank clueless look.

"Kora, huh? What a cutie." The urge to pet the Trapinch was high, these bad boys were all over the deserts in Hoenn. He'd often delivered packages for his dad with Ace, before Fairy came into his life, and these lobster babies always gave them hell. Fairy gave him a rather disapproving nip to the hand, as if telling him not to risk it, being used to Jonno's tactile tendencies that often lead to nasty cuts and bites.
"This nippy one's Fairy, he thinks he's an Arcanine or something." He joked at poor Fairy's expense, ignoring the high pitched growl from the fluffy creature. He ignored the puffball, and instead addressed the small group that seemingly spontaneously appeared before him as he awoke. It seemed this lounge was the meeting spot for all sorts in this Pokemon centre's dorm. He had been looking for company at some point, so this seemed like the ideal opportunity to strike. "So, are we all here for the League? I don't have too high hopes of completing it, but I figured it's a good goal to work towards."

"Ramona," the girl said to Mickey. His was an unusual name, but not the strangest she'd ever heard. Dad used to tell her they almost named her Penelope, which still made her shudder. Penelope Abernathy, a name fit for a local gremlin girl.
She swung her legs down from the couch to make room, leaned towards the pink-haired boy that had begun to speak. "I'm challenging with my dad," she said, without realizing how pathetic that sounded. She ran a hand through her tossed hair and pushed through before he could respond. "I think I'm going to win. At least come close." She didn't speak with any thunder, any ambition. It was as if she were telling a pleasant errand, a plan to get her favorite fruit from the grocer.
As she spoke, her eyes drifted to another boy-- oh, he was waving? She returned a smile, unsure of how else to respond.

Lydia looked towards Fairy. She couldn't deny, the fluff ball was pretty cute. Kora turned around to face Jonno and Fairy. "Yeah, I'm here for the league. I can't be certain I'll win it, but that won't stop me and Kora from trying," she pat the Trapinch's head a bit. Kora stood up slowly walked a bit towards them, stopping a couple feet away and staring up at Jonno. His head tilted to the side and he made a little trill sound. Lydia stared at Kora for a bit before looking at Jonno. "He's pretty well behaved, you can pet him if you want," she said.
Mickey grinned and held his bud's pokeball in his hand. "Yeah! Me and my buddy Wyra are gonna make a name for outselves!" he declared, full of determination. Would these people laugh at him if he showed them his starter? He just fiddled with his hands a bit and waited for someone else to talk.

Elijah was in a weird situation. One of the other trainers seemed to notice him, but seemed to be unbothered by his presence if all he got was a wave. His hands fidgeted as he thought of what he should say - droplets of sweat becoming apparent on his face. "I'm.. I'm... E-Elijah.." He spoke with a very quiet voice, his gaze didn't meet anybody else's besides the floor. Just by introducing himself his face became hot, his cheeks were flushed with a vibrant red. He wasn't paying much attention to what they were talking about, he assumed that everyone were introducing themselves, and their aspirations of becoming the first champion the island had to offer.
Elijah looked up discreetly to look for Togepi, who's name was titana. He was relieved to see him loitering nearby, Togepi was being friendly with the other pokemon but kept a watchful eye on his anxious trainer as well. "Ah.. this is Titana..." He mentioned as he pointed in the direction of the cheerful togepi.

A name for themselves. She supposed that fire existed in everyone here; no one just moves to a faraway island region on a whim like that. Ramona settled back into the couch and turned her attention to the pink-haired boy, then the one who stammered on his words. What a nervous one he was. She wasn't sure how to address him, until she spotted the Togepi.
"It's so small!" she exclaimed, and with a soft whisper added: "So round!" She was in herself for a moment, trying to come to terms with something so cute, like putting a manhole cover on a geyser. She outstretched her arms, motioned her hands as if to beckon the small Pokemon. She hoped it wasn't too shy...

Jonno was deeply touched by the offer, having wanting to pet Kora ever since their eyes meet. Without a moment of hesitation, he ran his hand over the firm mandibles of Trapnich with delight. "He's so solid. What a strong boy."
Fairy looking mildly put out, strutted over to Lydia to be pet himself. He raised his fluffy tail high, and wagged it in the universal symbol for 'love me'. Jonno almost missed Elijah's greeting, preoccupied with stroking Kora, though apparently he wasn't the only one in love with interactions with starters. There were so many pokemon in the world, and so many of them he hadn't petted. He was going to pet them all. But first, human interaction. He came back to himself to reply, "Ramona, Lydia, Mickey, Elijah. I'll try remember that, but no promises. I have the memory of a magikarp when it comes to names. Any plans for tonight? I'm thinking about checking out the city, maybe eating out. Wanna join?"

When Titana saw that Ramona was beckoning him to be in his arms, his face beamed with happiness. The tiny pokemon slowly trotted over, but the couch she was sitting on was impossible to jump onto since he is so small. Dismayed Togepi attempted to jump up a couple times but each ended in failure. Thats when Elijah noticed what Togepi was trying to do, with a sigh he softly picked togepi up and placed him in Ramona's lap. In honesty Elijah felt envious and annoyed whenever togepi wanted to sit on someone's lap, but it's not like he could prevent him from doing that.

Lydia smiled as Jonno pet Kora. The Trapinch blinked a bit in surprise at first, but then slowly got used to getting pet by the other human. Lydia chuckled a bit as Fairy strutted over demanding to be pet. "Somebody seems jealous," she jested, reaching her hand over to give the Eevee some scritches. For a split second, she was a bit surprised at Fairy's fluffiness. She was use to petting Kora's thick skin, she almost forgot what fur felt like. She looked up as she started stroking Fairy from his head to his back. "I'd be down to grab a bite," she answered. These people seemed nice anyways, so why not?
Mickey looked around at the various pokemon being pet by other trainers. He gulped a bit. He started to get increasingly worried about someone asking him about his starter. Mickey shows them that he owns a starter that is seen as weak and useless, then two things can happen. 1) They stare at him and his pokemon in awkward silence, or 2) They just laugh at him. Mickey blinked as Jonno mentioned having the memory of a Magikarp. "Well, Magikarps are shown to remember multiple different people and..." he trailed off. He figured these people didn't want to hear fun facts about Magikarp... "Umm, anyways... I might be able to go out to eat, just can't stay up too late..." he replied, rubbing his own arm.

It was sitting on her lap. Ramona felt light-headed, like someone was tickling her brain with a feather. She wasn't sure how to pet it or make it satisfied with her, so she just watched it with careful, raised hands, made sure it had space to do Togepi things. For all the hubbub she made over small Pokemon, she never knew how to handle them.
At the mention of food, Ramona smiled. All she had subsisted on for her first day in Amrys Island were a packaged ship breakfast and octillery-shaped cheese crackers. What was the food in this region like? She was suddenly antsy to find out, and the Togepi was now standing on the uneasy ground of her shifting legs. "It's not too late, is it?" she asked. She still wasn't sure if it was ten o'clock or two in the morning.
