Claire had decided that before getting caught up in the social aspect of the islands, she would try and catch some Pokemon. She headed out to Plip Plop Valley, a funny sounding name that appealed to her. It was a little rainy but she had a rain poncho on so it wasn't too bad. Giblets, however, spent most of the time stomping around and splashing in the puddles and the mud, growling happily and showing Claire every large puddle and making her watch as he would try and dive in. It made her laugh despite knowing that she'd have to give him a bath when they got home, a beast in itself. Encounter Dice:

After a few minutes of searching, a Dewpider leaped out from a patch of dewy grass, causing Claire to scream in fright. Spider Pokemon scared her nearly to death. Thankfully, Giblets leapt to her rescue and "scared" off the Dewpider, who just seemed underwhelmed by the Gible's "roar." The wild Pokemon simply turned and scuttled back into the grass where it had originated, seemingly dejected as if it wanted to play. 1-205

Juliette was trawling through the waters of Plip Plop Valley, her shoes hanging around her neck as her bare feet stepped carefully on the smooth riverbed to avoid the slippery moss. Chuuga, on the other hand, bounced between the rocks that protruded from the stream, disgusted by the dampness that was slowly taking over his pelt. And to add to the Pikachu's clear distaste for the wet locale, Juliette would occasionally shout, 'look alive' and spray him with water. In return, the Pikachu would quick attack his trainer into pools of water where stones slowed down the bubbling stream. So unsurprisingly they made very little progress in their journey to catch a friend.

"What do you think?" She looked over to Pikachu as a Tympole greeted them. Chuuga was less than impressed, blasting the rock nearby with a T"hundershock to chase it away. "Rude, much?"
Chuuga ignored her judgemental words and bounced on ahead till he noticed they weren't alone. He bounced up and down on the spot to catch their attention. "Pika pi!"1-205

Not to feel dejected, Claire got back up and decided to get back to searching for the perfect Pokémon to add to her team.

Giblets had caught it before her, but they both saw something dash around through a puddle or two. They gave chase and before long they noticed that it was a small Poliwag who had been checking out what all the noise was about. It was adorable! Without realizing they had stumbled into the same area where a girl and her Pikachu had been calling out to her.

While her Gible was busy distracting the small water Pokémon, Claire had snuck up and tapped the head of the Poliwag with a pokéball. A quick squeak of surprise came from the tadpole as it entered the ball. Thankfully, after a few shakes of the pokéball, there was a satisfying click as it signified the Poliwag was her newest friend. She stood up triumphantly and only then did she notice the two others in the area. With a quick flush of her cheeks, she smiled sheepishly. "Oh, hi. Sorry, must've been too caught up in catching this Poliwag," she said, waving the Pokéball in her hand.1-205·1-7
