Guan Town was beautiful in the autumn. Though the Amrys Islands didn't feel the cold that the Unova Region did this time of year, the forest still exploded with vibrant auburns and chestnuts and goldenrods. Cottages billowed with smoke, and old ladies sat together beneath a community center patio, and all around was the air of serenity, like there wasn't a massive city just over the menacing mountain. Ramona stood in that dirt clearing by the gym, watched the building as if it were an adversary staring her down. Jello the Solosis floated beside her. It looked around at everything with a curious nonchalance, as if it were interested but too lazy to investigate all that which it saw.
Ramona clenched and unclenched her fist. That cryptic goading from the girl in the field still thrummed in her ears. She hated bullies, hated the way they remained in her mind like a tattoo. She could still remember the names of all those girls from elementary school, middle school. This one was just another person in the black book of her mind.
She gently claimed the Solosis from where it floated. It was cool and squishy in her hands. She directed it towards a nearby tree, pointed and said: "Jello, Psyshock. Hit it well!" The Solosis took a moment to realize its inanimate target before a blast of purple energy struck the bark.
What remained was a small indent. Ramona half-smiled. Was this what training was? Surely she'd need to actually battle soon. A Pokemon Master had to challenge gyms eventually, and she couldn't in her current state.
"Again." It was all she could do. Who did she know that could battle her in a place like this?
