Corphish fell backwards. It used its huge claws to get itself back on its feet. "Kani! You alright?" Mickey called. That hit was really concerning to him. Corphish's head titled up at the sound of its trainer's voice.

Corphish shook its head, then perked up in pride as the dancing colors faded away. It pulled its claws back as it shouted. Mickey smiled, "Attagirl, Kani! Now, go for a Vice Grip!"

Corphish rushed forwards towards the levitating blob. It jumped upwards and grabbed the Solosis in one of its claws. It tried to clench down on the gelatinous pokemon.

Jello was dragged to the ground by the Corphish's claws. It seemed as if the confusion had worn off. While the opponent Pokemon was close, Ramona shouted: "Quick, Jello, Secret Power!" The little blob Pokemon was never known for being particularly speedy, but it slammed its body towards the Corphish with a bright white aura, like it were a miniature glowing moon. Corphish rolled out of the attack. It stared towards the Solosis and started to hop around, pinching the air with its claws. "Use Vice Grip again!" Mickey shouted. Corphish swiftly approached the Solosis and drew both claws back in preperation.

Ramona's Solosis was getting hit pretty hard. She bit her lip and decided on the nuisance tactic. "Another Confuse Ray!" she shouted. Jello obliged, shooting the ray towards the Corphish. Corphish backed up as those neon colors and wobbly figures returned. "Kani, focus! Try another Vice Grip!" is what Mickey said, but Corphish just heard "Kani" and "Vice grip", and even then the sound was slurred and distorted to the point where it could barely understand it. It squinted and strained as it attempted to make sense of everything around it.

Corphish took a couple steps back, saying "Corphish-phish... Corphish phish...". It put its claws onto its forehead and started to shake its head back and forth, its eyes shut tight. When it opened them back up, it jumped and opened its claws. It blinked as it remembered the command from its trainer. It rushed back forwards and put one claw in front of it. Then in a punch-like fashion, it threw the claw at the Solosis.

It threw the claw onto the Solosis and clenched on it a bit off-center, but still a direct hit.

Confusion was too much of a gamble now. Jello was damaged and about to fall fast. She had to get one more attack off and make it count. "Jello, use Secret Power!" she called again, and again the little Pokemon was enveloped in light.

It smashed into the Corphish with all its might, and for a moment the white energy transferred to Corphish. Though it fizzled and died, perhaps something remained in its stead?

Corphish stumbled backwards a bit, but mainly shook the white energy off. It panted and started to tremble as the damage began piling up. Mickey's heart began to race. League battles back in Hoppy Town were nothing like this. The biggest worry back there was if your Magikarp could jump high. He took a deep breath, then pointed at the Solosis. "Go for one more Vice Grip," he said. Corphish rushed over and opened its claws up as wide as it'd go.

Ramona gritted her teeth. That's the last thing she wanted to see, Jello dropping so quickly. She returned the Pokemon and whispered towards the device, unsure if any of the words would reach her target: "You did well, Jello," she said.
The next Pokemon out was Walnut, her Mienfoo. The little Pokemon had been stubborn and brooding the times she tried to meet it, but it seemed willing to fight for her; perhaps it was shyness. It emerged from the Pokeball with its fists clenched, as if it had been watching the whole time and was ready to avenge the fallen Solosis.

Corphish perked up in pride. Meanwhile, Mickey clenched his jaw and swallowed his own spit. He was one pokemon ahead, but... He still was so nervous. This style of battling was an entirely new experience for him. He looked at the fired up Meinfoo and felt chills shoot up his spine. Corphish snapped the air next to it with its claws as a either a warning or a preperation.

Mickey had an inner debate with himself. What should his game plan be? He could do the same thing he did with Solosis, full offense, but... This Meinfoo seemed really strong so... "Kick it off with Harden!". Better play it safe. The Corphish made an "X" with its claws and squinted with claws shut tight.

The Corphish's shell shined, and the chips and scuffs on it vanished. It then rolled its shoulders with its now slightly thicker shell.

A defensive move. Surely her Mienfoo could break through that! "Walnut, use Pound!" she called. The Pokemon seemed rather unused to its nickname, maybe even a little despondent, but it rushed at the newly-fortified Corphish, ready to do some damage.

Mickey flinched as the Corphish tumbled backwards. 'Playing defensive won't work... Back to Plan A, I suppose, he thought. He gripped his own arm as he shouted "Vice Grip!".

The Mienfoo fell with a yelp. While it was down, Ramona commanded that it use Pound once more, and this time it flung its feet towards the Corphish like a fallen kangaroo.
